In addition to plans for HART MetroRapid bus rapid transit service along Fletcher Avenue to Nebraska Avenue through to downtown Tampa, studies are also underway to widen Fletcher Avenue from 4 lanes to 6 lanes. To prevent or delay the need for costly road widening, the New North Transportation Alliance seeks to promote alternative transportation options to provide better mobility for commuters and ease traffic congestion. These options include carpooling, vanpooling, bicycling, walking, public transit, telecommuting and alternative work hours.
A Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study has begun to evaluate the improvements alternatives for Fletcher Avenue and consider the various impacts of those alternatives. The consultant, RS&H, was selected by Hillsborough County to conduct the study.
